CLASSROOM CONTEXT
‘Is this a mixed –ability class?’ ‘Are there special-needs students?’ ‘Is it a single-sex classroom?’ ‘Is classroom layout important?’
This is a single sex classroom( all girls), It is important that every student is seated near the workstation and have complete access to the workstation.

RATIONALE
‘Why am I teaching this lesson?’
‘Why am I using this particular pedagogy/methodology?’

This lesson will teach students how create a powerpoint presentation and insert images into it. They will also be taught how to incorporate audio in a powerpoint(2010) presentation (adding narration).
I will be usings constructivist ideas, by scaffolding them  with concepts and asking the students to build on them, I will be encouraging peer discussions and collborative work.
Skinners operant connditioning ideas will also be used in the form of  positive reinforcement to encourage students.
RESOURCES
‘What is needed in this lesson?’
Access to workstations, headsets, digital images, Powerpoint 2010 on every workstation, and access to internet.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
‘What do I want students to achieve in terms of skill and content acquisition in this lesson?’

Refer to Curriculum Documents
Use of ICT tools and manipulation techniques that support visualisation of thinking in specific learning situations; for example, use of powerpoint 2010 software to explore the concept of creating digital art.
Inclusion in their own websites of data, information or codes that comply with the legal use of ICT; for example, Making them aware of copyright statements.
Ongoing modification of information products to improve their efficiency and effectiveness, by applying editing, testing and manipulation techniques. This is doneby encouraging them to play around with the digital images.
(The above information is in par with VELS,Level 4)
What do I want students to achieve in terms of skill and content acquisition in this lesson?’
PHYSICAL, PERSONAL AND SOCIAL LEARNING
Students will learn to work as individuals and also as a team by sharing their ideas with other students.

INTERDISCIPLINARY
This task will challenge their creativity and also trigger their thinking process. The process of coming up with narration will improve their english language speaking skills.

METHOD

‘What strategies will be implemented so that students can achieve the above outcomes?’

Stages of the Learning and Teaching Cycle (not all lessons will contain all 5 stages).
Pedagogical frameworks such as Bloom’s Taxonomy or Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences theory can also be incorporated into strategies and activities.

The follwing stages of teaching learning cycle will be incorporated into the lesson:
  • Engagement: A youtube video will be played to engage the students and give them an idea about digital story telling.( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlBYWu3bX7c )
  • Transformation: Students will apply the concepts taught by trying to create a powerpoint presentation and including narration to create a digital story.
  • Presentation:  Students will display their work to their peers and tell their story.
  • Reflection: Students will be asked to write a one minute paper(note)  at the end of the class regarding what was the most important thing they learnt that day and what they understood the least.
  • MONITORING AND ASSESSMENT

‘How will I evaluate whether students have achieved the learning outcomes?
I will be constantly observing the students as they work through  their projects to notice their progress.
  • EVALUATION

‘Did the students achieve the learning outcomes?’ ‘What might I change about this lesson in future?’
Students will be encouraged to display their work to their peers and the teacher, which in turn will give me an idea about what they have learnt and how well they have applied the concepts taught in the class.  The one minute notes provided by the students will be used as a feedback about where I can improve, and will also guide me to make changes to improve the lesson for the future.

The video on this page is an example of digital story telling, The video demonstrates beautiful use of animation, text, images, music and narration to create a digital story. I showed this video to my students as an inspiration.
